Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old-girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Shatter Me completely exceeded all of my expectations when I was pulled into the harsh world of Juliette and Adam. The world-building was brutal and at times, disturbing. Mafi will have readers tangled up in so many lies and doubts, making it nearly impossible to predict what happens next.

Mafi's writing was absolutely stunning. The imagery and the strike-throughts did a good job of conveying Juliette's feelings of isolation and betrayal. The sometimes-blunt writing made Juliette's world seem all the more real. The storyline was complex and each unpredictable event occurred one after the other; keeping me on my toes.

Juliette's narrative completely entranced me and I was really able to connect with her because of her strong literary voice. I was able to watch her grow not only as a character, but also in her beliefs and her determination. She seemed very fragile at first, but as she started to trust Adam more and more, those layers were slowly peeled away. The chemistry between Juliette and Adam is unmatched from the very beginning. And because they share an even deeper physical connection, it just adds to their romance.
Shatter Me is dangerous, sexy, and original all in one. Its rungs are relationships, and if Cara transforms into the perfect girlfriend for guys ever-higher on the tower, she’ll reach the ultimate goal: Supreme Populazzi.

The Ladder seems like a lighthearted social experiment, a straight climb up, but it quickly becomes gnarled and twisted. And when everything goes wrong, only the most audacious act Cara can think of has a chance of setting things even a little bit right.

Hilarious and realistic, Populazzi will charm readers with it's seamlessly captured high school ambience. Allen crafts a fun story with the cliques, groups, and experiences. The lesson 'searching for whom you are and becoming someone who's not you, but then finding yourself again' is perfectly captured in Populazzi.

With Allen's writing being very engaging and appealing, readers will be hooked from the very start until the finish. Her writing also has a spark of humor and with the many various high school scenes that she remarkably portrayed, readers won't be able to help themselves but laugh.

Cara went under multiple transformations throughout the novel. She's likable and adorable, had her ups and downs, but was also very brave. At times, I was rooting for her and was hoping she'd get what she desired, but at other times as well, I couldn't help but judge her actions as she started loosing her own self and transforming into someone who isn't her.

The jargon, abbreviations, and lingo that Allen had twisted in with the story was amusing and humorous. It was fun to read all throughout with the silly or witty moments. Populazzi is one of those 'rise and fall' of popularity books but Allen made it unique as she added in twists along the way.

If you're looking for something light and fluffy, and a little thought provoking, Populazzi is the perfect read!

Maviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10232493028688667668noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1798865767157499997.post-27138450352345740852011-09-01T09:00:00.002-03:002011-09-01T09:00:15.896-03:00Upcoming Releases: September 2011There are so many great books releasing each month that not a lot know about, so, I've decided to have a post solely focused on releases every month.

Furnace Penitentiary: the world’s most secure prison for young offenders, buried a mile beneath the earth’s surface. Convicted of a murder he didn’t commit, sentenced to life without parole, “new fish” Alex Sawyer knows he has two choices: find a way out, or resign himself to a death behind bars, in the darkness at the bottom of the world. Except in Furnace, death is the least of his worries. Soon Alex discovers that the prison is a place of pure evil, where inhuman creatures in gas masks stalk the corridors at night, where giants in black suits drag screaming inmates into the shadows, where deformed beasts can be heard howling from the blood-drenched tunnels below. And behind everything is the mysterious, all-powerful warden, a man as cruel and dangerous as the devil himself, whose unthinkable acts have consequences that stretch far beyond the walls of the prison.

Together with a bunch of inmates—some innocent kids who have been framed, others cold-blooded killers—Alex plans an escape. But as he starts to uncover the truth about Furnace’s deeper, darker purpose, Alex’s actions grow ever more dangerous, and he must risk everything to expose this nightmare that’s hidden from the eyes of the world.

Every flame begins with a spark.

Ashline Wilde is having a rough sophomore year. She’s struggling to find her place as the only Polynesian girl in school, her boyfriend just cheated on her, and now her runaway sister, Eve, has decided to barge back into her life. When Eve’s violent behavior escalates and she does the unthinkable, Ash transfers to a remote private school nestled in California’s redwoods, hoping to put the tragedy behind her. But her fresh start at Blackwood Academy doesn’t go as planned. Just as Ash is beginning to enjoy the perks of her new school—being captain of the tennis team, a steamy romance with a hot, local park ranger—Ash discovers that a group of gods and goddesses have mysteriously enrolled at Blackwood…and she’s one of them. To make matters worse, Eve has resurfaced to haunt Ash, and she’s got some strange abilities of her own. With a war between the gods looming over campus, Ash must master the new fire smoldering within before she clashes with her sister one more time… And when warm and cold fronts collide, there’s guaranteed to be a storm.
Mysterious and dark, Wildefire is a unique take on Polynesian mythology, a topic that isn't common at all in paranormal YA. The unpredictability that Knight brought into the novel lingered throughout Wildefire. The complex plot ultimately lead to the biggest shock that I didn't see coming at all.

Knight's writing was, to simply put it, addicting. I couldn't get enough of the strong world-building in Wildefire and the steady flow of information that was revealed. The paranormal and contemporary aspects to the book complimented each other perfectly, giving a balance of reality and imagination. The mythological ideas in the book were developed flawlessly and didn't data-dump me at any point.

Ashline is a completely normal character who gets thrown into a crazy web of mythology and power. She has a mature narrative because of the issues and ordeals that she has gone through. For instance, Eve haunts her but she deals with this quite well considering everything that she's going up against. This adds an air of mystery and suspense that stays all throughout Wildefire. The romance in this book didn't dominate, but friendship was a large factor in it. Ashline's group of friends were all individual in their own way and they had their own quirks to their personalities.
Engaging, exciting, and completely original, Wildefire digs deep into the roots of Polynesian mythology. The idea of the whole story is extremely unique because of the combination of karma-induced problems and the truly ordinary setting in Maine.

Miles' writing was perfect for Fury. It had a suspenseful edge to it while still maintaining a smooth flow with the change of point-of-views between Em and Chase. Miles wove a complex web of lies and manipulation that even I was caught up in. Fury was truly an original read with a creative premise and a drama-packed plot.

The characters Em and Chase were two very down-to-earth characters with normal problems in high school. Their growth as characters was really noticeable and not rushed as the novel went on. They learned from their actions and realized their mistakes. I was surprised in how normal their interactions were with their friends like Zach and Gabby despite their own secrets. This just added even more deception and intrigue into the story. Em and Chase were two relatable and likable characters that will draw readers to them effortlessly.

Fury is part paranormal and part contemporary. The feel of the contemporary atmosphere, along with the paranormal aspects delivered a creative look on karma. Fury is full of deception and hard-core drama that will have readers furiously wanting the sequel.Maviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10232493028688667668noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1798865767157499997.post-74944581446637881922011-08-18T09:00:00.003-03:002011-08-18T09:00:10.227-03:00Hourglass by Myra McEntire
Hourglass by Myra McEntire

Pages: 397
Format: Hardcover
Publisher: Egmont
Publication Date: June 14, 2011
Source: Publicist

Overall:

For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.

So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he’s around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?

Even with it's slow start, Hourglass blew me away with it's charming characters, gripping mystery, and sweet romance. McEntire's debut is a breathe of fresh air with it's science fiction and time travel incorporated within the story.

McEntire's writing kept me captivated and engaged all throughout. Her writing style is so elegant and vivid that I was absorbed into the world that she had created. The plot was fast-paced and had a lot of unexpected occurrences with twists and turns. The aspect of time traveling was a bit confusing with it's complexities but McEntire perfectly tied everything together in the end.

I love a girl with confidence and attitude-- this was Emerson. She was such an engaging, bold, and daring character. Although, she was different from the rest. She saw weird things like ghosts, but weren't actually there. No one really believed her so she was always known to be crazy. What I loved about her though was that she aways stood up to Michael to prove that she can handle anything.

And yes… Michael. I was attracted to him from the very beginning. He has this attraction… he was sweet, mysterious, sensitive, and loyal, who always looked out for Emerson. I never really questioned him because Michael was a good guy. Then there comes Kaleb. I liked him as well. He came mid-way in the story and I was just so torn between the two!

The 'not-so' love triangle part didn't play that much of a role in Hourglass. There's both Michael and Kaleb, but Emerson was falling more for Michael. I wouldn't actually call it a 'love triangle'. Both Michael and Kaleb won me over for their different, but yet charming personalities.

Mind-bending and mesmerizing, Hourglass is sure to impress paranormal fans. Sizzling action, to-die-for characters, plot twists, and everything else you want in a young adult paranormal novel is all in Hourglass. It's the definite page-turner.
Maviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10232493028688667668noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1798865767157499997.post-28675316318898490412011-08-16T09:00:00.009-03:002011-08-16T09:12:50.495-03:00Author Interview: Carrie Harris (Bad Taste in Boys)

Carrie Harris:

Carrie Harris is a geek-of-all-trades and proud of it. Brains are her specialty; she used to work at a lab where they were delivered daily via FedEx. After that, it seemed only natural to write a zombie book. Now she lives in Michigan with her ninja-doctor husband and three zombie-obsessed children.

Bad Taste in Boys:
Someone's been a very bad zombie.

Kate Grable is horrified to find out that the football coach has given the team steroids. Worse yet, the steroids are having an unexpected effect, turning hot gridiron hunks into mindless flesh-eating zombies. No one is safe--not her cute crush Aaron, not her dorky brother, Jonah . . . not even Kate!

She's got to find an antidote--before her entire high school ends up eating each other. So Kate, her best girlfriend, Rocky, and Aaron stage a frantic battle to save their town. . . and stay hormonally human.
________________________________________________________________________________
What made you decide to write a book revolving around zombies?
I love zombies! I like my monsters as silly as possible, and there’s nothing sillier than a lurching, undead football player with his helmet on sideways. But it’s still a little scary, because what’s going to happen when the helmet comes off? I love that. Really, the only thing better than a good zombie story is a good zombie story in which the zombies wear roller skates.

Think about it.

How did you come up with the title, Bad Taste in Boys?
Actually, I can’t take the credit for that, as much as I want to! When I sent the manuscript in to my agent, it was called NO PAIN, NO BRAIN, which I thought was a cute title for a zombie football player book. But my editor suggested a title change, and she sent me a bunch of emails listing off potential titles. I didn’t really care for any of them, to be honest, but then she sent me an email that contained only four words: BAD TASTE IN BOYS. And that was it!

Do you think you're qualified enough to be called a zombie/monster expert?
Probably! If you name a monster, I can name a movie or book it was in, tell you how to kill it, and possibly produce a piece of clothing with its picture on it! I know a lot of monster lore. But sadly, I’m really horrible at games in which you have to actually shoot the monsters. In the event of a zombie apocalypse, you’ll find me standing behind my husband, yelling helpful things like “Hit it in the head!”

My husband’s a ninja. No, REALLY.

I truly adore the cover of Bad Taste in Boys! What was you're first reaction when you saw it?
Well, I’ll admit that I wasn’t exactly expecting the cover. When I think about zombie football players, the first thing that comes to mind ISN’T sugar lips! So when I opened it, I had this crazy moment of “WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!?!” And then I checked to make sure they didn’t send me the wrong cover by mistake. But having said all that, I think it’s gorgeous, and I think it’s a witty play on the title.

Are you're experiences similar to Kate when you were in high school? Excluding zombies of course, or maybe not… :)
Maybe a little. I’ve always been a geek, and I went through a mega awkward phase from about second grade until sophomore year of high school. I had an afro, buck teeth, braces, and this horrible pink and black tiger striped bandanna. Ugh! So when I came out the other side, and suddenly I started getting dates? That kind of flipped me out. You’re always second guessing yourself—I’m a geek! Why is he talking to me? Is something stuck in my teeth?

Honestly, I still think like that sometimes.

I read your website and twitter quite a bit… I'll admit, I kind of semi-stalked you. Is it really true that your husband is a ninja doctor and all of your three children are obsessed with zombies?
All true! My husband has his umpteenth black belt in a form of ninjutsu, and he works as a pediatrician. And my kids are some of the only elementary students who know how to play zombie tag. Last year, my first grader brought home a zombie play from school in which all of the dialogue was like “OOOOOO! Zombies!”

Of course, I loved it. I still have it.

What's up next for you book-wise? Will there be more of Kate, Aaron, Rocky and Jonah?
About an hour ago, I handed in the line edits for my next book, BAD HAIR DAY. And yes, it’s another Kate Grable adventure, only instead of zombies, it’s about werewolves and nanotechnology and blueberry flavored astronauts and killer coconuts. That’ll be out in November of 2012. And I have a few more tricks up my sleeve that I hope to be able to talk about in public soonish!

Thanks so much for having me here! BRAAAAINS! ☺

With it's hilarious and charming characters, Bad Taste in Boys is a refreshing read from the typical dark and serious paranormal novels. The novel is zombie-packed along with romance and paranormal put together.

Harris's writing kept me rapt within her high school atmosphere of zombies until the very last page. There was a great mix of zombies, romance, and paranormal. The romance and love interest in the story was well-balanced. It did not over dominate the plot of the story; it was just light, not too serious, and didn't have much sizzle. Despite that, it was still very sweet and endearing.

Kate's personality was so relatable, that's what got me to like her even more. She was so utterly intelligent and had me laughing at times. Her voice was so real and honest. She was that type of girl who always took charge. Also, her slight obsession with Aaron, a football quarterback was realistic and very cute too. And then there's Jonah, Kate's brother! He was just awesome… too awesome. He was always trying to help protect Kate. Even though he was quite dorky, he still had a great sense of humor! I loved the sibling relationship between Kate and Jonah!

Readers who enjoy zombies are sure to love this, and even readers who aren't such big fans of zombies (like me!) will still enjoy Bad Taste in Boys.
Callie Andrews triumphed during her first semester at Harvard: she made incomparable friends, found the perfect boyfriend, and received invitations to the most exclusive secret societies. But she may have ruined every-thing with one ill-fated night. Now she's keeping secrets from everyone, including—

Gregory
the guy who's a total(ly hot) mistake

and Lexi
the social queen who wants to bring Callie down.

But Callie didn't get into Harvard by giving up, and she isn't about to now. Besides, she's not the only one with something to hide...

Witty and scandalous, Secrets is a fun mix of drama, lies, romance, and secrets that will charm readers until the very end. Kunze and Onur has created a great prestigious college atmosphere along with the issues of friendship, relationships, drinking, and scandals.

Kunze and Onur has yet again created a thrilling plot built with secrets. The secrets in the story had a lot to do with love, initiating more disputes. Even though the suspense did not build up, the suspense was there all throughout the story. I couldn't help stop myself from flipping the pages!

The characters were definitely the most entertaining part of the story. Each character had their own personality, had their flaws, and was unique in ther own way. They basically were either the ones you loved, or the ones you hate. Callie, even though smart and appealing, struggled to stand up for herself for this one secrets of hers that would may destroy her friendships and relationship. Although, Callie was still very likable and relatable. Her love life added onto her drama, as two boys were always vying for her attention.

Secondary characters, Mimi and Dana, were very amusing and enjoyable. Mimi's French chinwags always made me smile and Dana's levelheaded attitude and overall smartness were great traits. Also, Vanessa, Callie's ex-bestfriend due to betrayal, was a fun character that always stirred up the drama, causing the story to get more suspenseful.

Gregory or Clint? I am absolutely torn between those two! Being 'perfect', Clint was such a sweet and charming guy. Through his actions, it was obvious that he did care a lot about Callie. Though, with Gregory, it was obvious that both Callie and him were attracted to each other. It was a complicated friendship because there was a lot of misunderstandings and a lot of 'avoiding' with the both of them.

Just like The Ivy, Secrets has left at another cliffhanger. Secrets is a novel you won't want to miss. The atmosphere packed with boys, drinking, secrets, and lies is the definite high school experience.

Maviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10232493028688667668noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1798865767157499997.post-68862613966123372412011-08-10T09:00:00.002-03:002011-08-10T09:00:03.900-03:00Sneaking Around Goodreads (14)'Sneaking Around Goodreads' is a showcase of a few books in which is found from Goodreads.com. Just one mistake could trigger Connor's rage, a senseless storm of cruel words and violence damaging everything — and everyone — in its path.

With But I Love Him written backwards, Grace perfectly captures the intensity, emotions, and heartbreak that the characters in her story go through. Readers are opened to a different level of compelling issues that Grace has dived into; both physical and emotional abusive relationships, family issues, and losing yourself.

I found Grace's writing extremely powerful, raw, and evoking. Her writing really brought out the emotions within and her prose was brimming with emotional depth. Grace's use of storytelling will help readers understand and truly know the characters. She started from the end, which was when it was the height of the abusive relationship and went backwards from there.

Ann was so trapped with Connor's love. She was always so emotionally and physically down-- she was ultimately broken. I was so gripped, but yet haunted with Ann's story. She's trying to figure out and realize how everything suddenly just went all wrong with her relationship with Connor. And, even though Connor's actions were completely unacceptable, I still felt some sort of sympathy for him because his past is a part of him… and his past was somewhat sort of like Ann's.

Beautifully-written with harsh issues effortlessly tackled by Grace, But I Love Him is a startling but yet remarkable story.Maviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10232493028688667668noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1798865767157499997.post-69771872226631295752011-08-06T09:00:00.006-03:002011-08-06T09:00:05.836-03:00Paperback Cover (3): Mad Love'Paperback Cover' highlights one new paperback cover that is different from their original hardcover release. Sniper shootings throughout the D.C. area have everyone on edge, trying to make sense of the random acts of violence. Meanwhile, Craig and Lio are just trying to make sense of their lives.

Craig's crushing on quiet, distant Lio, and preoccupied with what it meant when Lio kissed him...and if he'll do it again...and if kissing Lio will help him finally get over his ex-boyfriend, Cody.

Lio feels most alive when he's with Craig. But when her life in Brooklyn begins to fall apart, she must travel there, to her family’s ancestral home, where centuries of family secrets await her.

Once there, Rosa falls head over heels for Alessandro Carnevare, the son of a Sicilian Mafia family, whose handsome looks and savage grace both fascinate and unsettle her. But their families are sworn enemies, and her aunt and sister believe Alessandro is only using Rosa to infiltrate the Alcantara clan. And when Rosa encounters a tiger one night—a tiger with very familiar eyes—she can no longer deny that neither the Carnevares nor the Alcantaras are what they seem.

Hidden caves, dangerous beasts roaming the hills, and a history of familial bloodlust mean that Rosa can’t trust anyone. Torn between loyalty to her family and love for their mortal enemy, Rosa must make the hardest decision of her life: stay in Sicily with her new love…or run as far and as fast as she can.
Thoughts: Look at the cover... Facing a summer of loneliness, Hannah turns to her best friend Ava for comfort. Ava does what BFFs do: she stays by Hannah's side...until it's time for Ava to head up to Maine for the summer. Also left behind is Ava's boyfriend, Noah, who's such a great guy he gets Hannah a job at the diner he waits tables at. Slowly, Hannah comes out of her funk thanks to Noah's good conversation and their fun times at the diner. But things get complicated when their friendship turns into attraction--and one night, into a passionate kiss. The novel opens on the first day of senior year; the day Hannah is going to see Ava, Sebastian, and Noah all in one place.

Over the course of the day secrets and betrayals are revealed, and alliances are broken and reformed. In the end, everyone is paired up once again, but not the way you might think...

Filled with summer romance and drama, Sometimes it Happens is yet another impressive contemporary novel coming from Barnholdt. The characters were so down to earth and realistic, while the plot was fast moving.

The switch between the past and the present (chapters alternated between what happened during summer and the first day of senior year) was easy to follow. The plot was fast paced and had a good flow. The interchange of past and present was great way of expressing Hannah's story. Readers will be able to see how actions in the past led Hannah to the consequences she was dealing with in the present.

Hannah, was hilarious, charming, and so innocent. She's not the type of girl who wants revenge on someone even though they really deserved it. She cares and worries about everyone but not really herself. Moreover, Hannah's growth was seen throughout the novel. At the start she was this weak girl who let Ava, her best friend control her, but then she transformed to being strong and brave.

Sometimes It Happens is a page-turner with 100% real, relatable characters and an exciting plot with teen regrets and drama. You're up for a delightful emotional, authentic, and romantic roller-coaster ride!
Maviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10232493028688667668noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1798865767157499997.post-79854314428893280692011-08-03T09:00:00.001-03:002011-08-03T09:00:22.721-03:00Cover-Catch (19)'Cover-Catch' features book covers that will be of interest to the YA blogging world and to myself. But everything changed senior year, when she took a horrible fall during a game. Now a metal plate holds her together and she feels like a stranger in her own family.

As a graduation present, Chelsea's dad springs for a three-week summer "boot camp" program at a northern Minnesota lake resort. There, she's immediately drawn to her trainer, Clint, a nineteen-year-old ex-hockey player who's haunted by his own traumatic past. As they grow close, Chelsea is torn between her feelings for Clint and her loyalty to her devoted boyfriend back home. Will an unexpected romance just end up causing Chelsea and Clint more pain-or finally heal their heartbreak?

Compelling and beautifully written, Playing Hurt is an absorbing story of loss and love. With alternative perspectives, Schindler was able to portray heartfelt feelings and perceive each character in more depth.

The premise of Playing Hurt was very original and intriguing-- two characters whose love for sports is shattered and is struggling to find themselves complete. Moreover, the setting of Minnesota was perfect. Schindler was clear-cut with rich and vibrant detail, especially with the adventures in Minnesota with Chelsea and Clint.

Chelsea and Clint's past was unfortunate and Schindler clearly evoked their pain and emotions. With both their emotional and physical distress, and being haunted with their fears, they helped each other in many ways. Clint was sweet and obliging, he pushed Chelsea to accept the past and heal from it. Kendall Fletcher wasn’t that friendly with the missing girl, but the angst wreaks havoc on her OCD-addled brain.

When a second student goes missing—someone close to Kendall’s heart—the community is in an uproar. Caught in a downward spiral of fear and anxiety, Kendall’s not sure she can hold it together. When she starts hearing the voices of the missing, calling out to her and pleading for help, she fears she’s losing her grip on reality. But when she finds messages scratched in a desk at school—messages that could only be from the missing student who used to sit there—Kendall decides that crazy or not, she’d never forgive herself if she didn’t act on her suspicions.

Something’s not right in Cryer’s Cross—and Kendall’s about to find out just how far the townspeople will go to keep their secrets buried.

McMann’s Cryer’s Cross is hauntingly creepy and scary, but yet, original and refreshing. It’s dark and mysterious with its unique concept; mysterious disappearances happening in a small town.

Constantly, McMann throws mind baffling twists and turns that are totally unexpected. Cryer’s Cross is plot-driven, it was the one that drove the whole story to flow and work. Also, McMann’s writing is so distinctive and dominant writing, that it is easy for readers to feel the emotions of the characters. The only lowlight to the way McMann brought this story together is that she could have thrown in more hints or a little more knowledge on what happened to the people who were missing.

Refreshing and interesting, Kendall’s OCD added so much to the story. It was easier to get her personality through. The fact that she had to deal with so many compulsions, but yet was able to stay calm on the outside was pretty fascinating. Jacien, at the start, was a jerk. He shined his angriness that he had moved to the town.

The relationship between Kendall and Jacien was, not surprisingly, startling. McMann’s way of building up romance in a story has never ceased to amaze me. When Kendall and Jacien immediately start to connect, Jacien unfolds and starts to change.

Cryer’s Cross is a haunting thriller that psychological horror enthusiasts are sure to enjoy. A great stand-alone from McMann!

Cover::
Ending:

Characters:
Plot:

Writing:

Maviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10232493028688667668noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1798865767157499997.post-12147159370936124422011-04-07T09:00:00.003-03:002011-04-07T09:00:03.465-03:00Author Interview & Giveaway: Kim Harrington (Clarity)

Kim Harrington

Books (Young Adult):

Clarity (March 2011)

Links:

Website | Blog | Facebook | Twitter

Kim Harrington:

Kim Harrington lives in Massachusetts with her husband and son. When not writing, she's most likely reading, watching one of her favorite TV shows, or fantasizing about her next vacation. She has no psychic powers and is cool with that. Her debut young adult novel, Clarity, came out on March 1, 2011 from Scholastic.

Clarity:
Clarity "Clare" Fern sees things. Things no one else can see. Things like stolen kisses and long-buried secrets. All she has to do is touch an object and the visions come to her. It's a gift.

And a curse.

When a teenage girl is found murdered, Clare's ex-boyfriend wants her to help solve the case — but Clare is still furious at the cheating jerk. Then Clare's brother — who has supernatural gifts of his own — becomes the prime suspect, and Clare can no longer look away. Teaming up with Gabriel, the smoldering son of the new detective, Clare must venture into the depths of fear, revenge, and lust in order to track the killer. But will her sight fail her just when she needs it most?
____________________________________________________________________________________

Did you have any input on the cover for Clarity?
I didn’t, but I love what they came up with. Things no one else can see. Things like stolen kisses and long-buried secrets. All she has to do is touch a certain object, and the visions come to her. It's a gift.

And a curse.

When a teenage girl is found murdered, Clare's ex-boyfriend wants her to help solve the case--but Clare is still furious at the cheating jerk. Then Clare's brother--who has supernatural gifts of his own--becomes the prime suspect, and Clare can no longer look away. Teaming up with Gabriel, the smoldering son of the new detective, Clare must venture into the depths of fear, revenge, and lust in order to track the killer. But will her sight fail her just when she needs it most?
Riveting and fast-paced, Clarity is a page-turner that will keep you at the edge of your seat with it’s kick-ass romance, mystery, and paranormal. Harrington has ultimately captured the blend of both physics and homicide. There’s also the love triangle and the suspense with the mystery that absorbs readers until the very last page.

Harrington’s writing seems so effortless and it flowed so seamlessly. Even though the plot is fast-paced, it’s always suspenseful. Its expertly woven, getting readers to get sucked by the mystery and coveting for it to be revealed.

Being called a ‘freak,’ Clare is much more than that. Snarky, fierce, and strong, Clare’s family, including herself, are physics and have special abilities. She has the gift of clairvoyance, where, if she touches an object, she can see it’s past. But, she is taunted about her powers, especially since it’s how they make money. Although, she takes control and uses her confidence because she is brave. There’s also her vulnerable side, which was great to see in her as well.

It’s extremely hard to choose between Justin and Gabriel, especially with the love triangle with Clare. Both of them truly cared about Clare and wouldn’t let anything happen to her. Justin, unlike the rest of Clare’s other friends, liked Clare because she was different. Gabriel, on the other hand, tries to hide his feelings for her.

Clarity is a fresh, fierce— stunning debut. With a shocking mystery, sweet romance, intriguing characters, and hot boys, you don’t want to miss this!

Cover::
Ending:

Characters:
Plot:

Writing:

Maviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10232493028688667668noreply@blogger.com4
