Today, I'm excited to have Carrie Jones in my blog. She is the author of NEED, and other books. Her upcoming book is CAPTIVATE, which I can't wait to read!
How did you start to write your NEED series?
I was at the Common Ground Fair, which is this huge, cool fair in Maine that’s sponsored by Maine Organic Farmers and Growers Association (MOFGA). To get to the main part of the fair you have to walk through this sweet trail that curves through these tall spruce trees.
Right in front of me was this guy. He had a weird vibe. He was wearing all corduroy – blazer, pants. And sticking out from his blazer was this long tail-like appendage that was wrapped in different colored earth-toned cloth. I guess he could tell I was checking him out because he turned his head and looked at me. His eye was this startling silver color. How startling? So startling that I actually gasped and got creeped out.
Then when we were in line to pay we made eye contact again and his eyes were brown.
I know! I know! I probably imagined the silver eye color.
It doesn’t matter. That was one of the main things that got me started. Then, I just had this image of a man standing outside an airport pointing at an airplane this girl was on.
It also creeped me out.
So, I started writing. If you could pick a theme song for NEED and/or CAPTIVATE, what would it be and why?
I had this really great contest on my website about this because I couldn't pick one.
Alexz Johnson's Hurricane Girl won.
Can you tell us a bit about your covers for NEED and CAPTIVATE? (I love them!)
I love them, too. I didn't have anything to do with them however. It was all the graphic design team at Bloomsbury.
I honestly think that NEED was so successful because the cover was so beautiful in a creepy/cool way.
Do you have any must-have's while writing?
I need my computer or some paper and a writing implement because I don't like to use my own blood. After awhile you bleed so much you kind of lose focus.
I also like to have a chair unless I'm revising and then I stand.
Yes, I know! I have soooo many demands. I'm a total diva.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
I love the short stories and poems of Sherman Alexie. I am a total fan girl.
I also love .
I also love Justine Larabeister who I recently attempted to carjack a Lexis SUV with. A-hem. Although she did get that "All the " song stuck in my head. Grrr....
I am also in love with Daniel Waters, Heather Brewer, Cynthia Leitich Smith, , Rita Williams Garcia....
Okay. Basically. I love everyone. They are all my favorites. I should probably go to therapy for that, huh?
List 5-10 of your favorite things. Doesn't need to be in order.
1. Carjacking with Justine Larabeister.
2. Not getting arrested for said carjacking.
3. The word: carjacking.
5. The fact that Daniel Waters writes zombie books but has the hots for Tinkerbelle.
6. Handsome cops who change your tire for you while in uniform and then fail to ticket you when they see that your registration is out of date.
10. Cowboy/werewolf costumes on Halloween.
If you weren't an author what would your dream job be?
I would like to be a human rights attorney and work for Amnesty International.
This is because I have a TOTAL martyr complex. When I was a kid I wanted to take a bullet for (the lead singer of the Irish band U2) and be assassinated and therefore bring peace to Northern Ireland. Unfortunately, brokered a peace deal and I never got a chance. Darn that George Mitchell!
Lastly, is there anything else you'd like to add?
Thank you for hosting me! It was soooo nice of you.
Also, do you know where I can find any cowboy/werewolves?
Your welcome Carrie! And, thanks to you too!
