There were no surprises in Gatlin County.

We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.

At least, that's what I thought.

Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.

There was a curse.

There was a girl.

And in the end, there was a grave.

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

Beautiful Creatures is a hauntingly beautiful debut novel written by the fantastic duo of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. I loved the whole idea of Casters. The relationship of Lena and Ethan wasn't rushed and they got to know each other as they fell for each other.

Garcia and Stohl have crafted a debut novel with an amazing, original plot that haunts you after you're done reading the book. The plot was suspenseful, and surprisingly, I didn't find it dragging with the length of the book. Even though the real action started in the last few chapters, I enjoyed discovering the world of Casters along with Ethan and Lena. The secrets that were kept from them were slowly revealed.

I loved all the characters in BC. Everyone in Gaitlin fit the atmosphere of the book entirely. Amma was one character that I'd have to have on my side and Lena's uncle was mysterious, yet kind of revealing at the same time. Little did Ethan and Lena know that the two people they trust most were the ones keeping all the secrets...

It's official: I'm in love with BC and found it refreshing, especially with Ethan's voice as the narrator. Everyone should read it. Kami and Margie have created a wonderful debut...and from a guy's perspective! Now that's what you call talent!
