Freak of nature takes on a whole new meaning...

If she hadn't been so clueless, she might have seen it coming. But really, who expects to get into a relaxing bathtub after a stressful day of shopping for tankinis and come out with scales and a tail?

Most. Embarrassing. Moment. Ever.

Jade soon discovers she inherited her mermaid tendencies from her mom. But if Mom was a mermaid, how did she drown?

Jade is determined to find out. So how does a plus-size, aqua-phobic mer-girl go about doing that exactly? And how will Jade ever be able to explain her secret to her best friend, Cori, and to her crush, Luke?

This summer is about to get a lot more interesting...
Charming and quirky, Real Mermaids Don’t Wear Toe Rings passes on both to the tween and young adult literature, depicting a tween becoming a teen. Boudreau has created a realistic read with lessons of growing up, having ‘firsts’, and having to cope with situations.

Mermaid mythology has always been an interesting concept for me to get into… there is not many young adult novels surrounding mermaids, so this one was definitely a fresh look into mermaids. The myth that Boudreau has created seemed very believable, at times, I thought it was true.

Thirteen-year-old Jade is experiencing many changes within her own self, and within the people around her. She’s that real teen and had many flaws, which I really liked because it made her stand out even more. The mystery with her mom’s death was always something Jade had to cope with and she had issues with her self-confidence and insecurities. Though, Jade was also funny, brave and kind, she had me laughing at times. I loved how Boudreau slowly blended reality and fantasy together as Jade starts hitting her teenage years and as well as discovering she’s a mermaid.

The relationship with her dad was just so adorable and I enjoyed reading how it would go on. He always was trying his best to raise Jade and he was always there for her… especially with one of her ‘firsts’.

Boudreau has weaved an exciting tale of mermaid mythology and growing up… a witty, fun, and humorous novel with many cute lessons to learn!

This one looks really cute. I think I seen it on Goodreads a little while ago and it caught my eye. I've always love the mythology of a mermaid, but have noticed that there aren't many young adult books about them. I'll have to pick this one up. I especially like the cover, it really covers the synopsis of the book.
