Today, I'm featuring Carolyn MacCullough, author of recent release, Once A Witch, I decided to post her interview today since Once A Witch was released a few days ago. Hope you enjoy this one!
What gave you the idea of writing Once A Witch?
I was running through Brooklyn one day when I saw a gargoyle statue outside of a beautiful townhouse. I started wondering what kinds of stories he could tell if he could talk. Then I started thinking about a character who had the ability to make statues talk. And then I started thinking about a character who didn't have any magical abilities whatsoever, but who was born into a family who all had magical abilities. What would she be like?
Where and When do you usually write? Is there a specific time?
I usually write in the mornings--starting around 10 and then stop around 2 or 3. I like writing in coffee shops. It's harder to write at home because I'll let myself get distracted.

What is your most favorite book?
That's a tough one. I have so many favorite books. When I was a teenager, my favorite book was The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley.

How old were you when you started to write?
Probably seven or eight. I wrote a lot of poems at that point. Pretty bad poems.
What are you doing this moment, apart from answering this question?
Eating an apple and wishing my baby daughter would take a longer nap so I could nap, too!

What did you last Google?
Vacations houses in St. John's. Oh, how I would love to be on a Caribbean beach right now.

Do you have any must haves while writing?
Chocolate!
What is the best piece of advice for those young aspiring writers out there?
Read! Read everything you can. It will make you a better writer in the long run.

I've heard so many mixed reviews on this book, so I have no idea what to expect, almost. Thanks for the interview. Still excited to read it. :)
