Across the Universe by Beth Revis
Paperback release (left): November 29, 2010
Hardcover release (right): January 11, 2011

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.

Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone - one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship - tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.

Now, Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

What do you think of the new paperback cover?

I loved the hardcover when I first saw it and the new paperback is nowhere near as pretty. I don't think it will stand out on the shelves half as much as the hardcover does.

I actually don't like the hardcover picture. Since I own the copy, I actually reversed it to the ship diagram on the inside!

I was hoping they'd give this a new cover. The HC jacket image is nice, but I've seen it used on other books and websites. It's a stock image. That happens. But now it's kind of "old hat."

I agree the new cover isn't as bright and colorful, but I think it has more of a sci-fi reader appeal to it than the original. Stars on a sci-fi cover isn't really that unique. The new PB cover actually shows me something about this particular story world, before I even open the book. Love it.

I actually like the new one better. I haven't read the book, but I'd be more likely to with the PB cover than the old one.

I think I like the old cover better. Lydia is right, the old cover was a bit cliche, but it was more visually appealing and striking to me. The new cover is very plain.
